The aim of this thesis is to define (a) the role of intimal neovascularization in the initiation and development of atherosclerosis, (b) the distribution patterns of blood-derived components in human coronary arteries, through which to find the sequence in which intimal components are involved in th e initiation and development of atherosclerotic lesions and (c) the similarities and differences between acute myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular diseases and the influence of diseases such as infectious, cancer and alcoholism on atherosclerosis in human coronary arteries
