The mechanical contraction method for obtaining granular packings is introduced. This has resulted in amorphous granular packings of spheres, which are considered with previously used methods. Further, the method is able to handle spherocylinders out to very long aspect ratios. The results for the spherocylinders reproduce existing experimental results for all available aspect ratios
