Saloon bar in the Civic Hotel, corner of Pitt and Goulburn Streets, Sydney

View of chrome and vinyl stools in front of a curved bar topped and faced with linoleum. The floor has been laid in a bold design made out of different coloured linoleum. Linoleum has also been used as a wall surface. The saloon is lit by long strip lights in the ceiling and a tube light set in the mirror-backed shelving. The walls are decorated with mirror panels, murals that include a scene of Sydney Harbour Bridge and two framed poster reproductions of pub paintings. The one on the left was painted by Alan D. Baker and advertised K.B., while that on the right was by Tom Woodman and advertised Resch's Long Bottle Pilsener. Other details include chromed edgings and fixtures, a radio, a wall clock and a cash register. The site for the Civic Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in 1937. The license was acquired in September 1940 when it was transferred from the City Railway Hotel on Castlereagh Street. The Civic was sold in August 1982. On completion of rebuilding in September 1940 the hotel was a three storeyed brick stucture, with a flat concrete roof and a fully tiled ground floor exterior. The architectural style is known as P. & O. Ship Style because of its similarities to ocean liner forms
