Situated in a busy urban and industrial region, Lille-Lesquin airport has up to now a limited passenger traffic (157 000 passengers), due to the proximity of Paris and to the excellent road and rail connections between the North of France and the capital. But Lille-Lesquin airport offers an interesting feature among the other French airports, because its development is essentially based on "inter-city connections" avoiding Paris : as a matter of fact, the first flight to be established in Lesquin (1960) was between Lille and Lyon-much before Lille-Orly (1965) -and it is still the most important as far as traffic is concerned.
