The Noordoostpolder -Northeast Polder, the second polder of the Zuiderzee reclaiming works -is a popular example of a planned spatial unit. The «Polder» has been realised in the forties and fifties. It was not less than an ideal society that the planners had in mind. Nowadays this recent example of «total planning» has to deal with problems of stagnation.
