Bruxelles 1999 : ville multiculturelle et fragmentée

An overview is presented of the population characteristics and the socio-economic features of Brussels-Capital Region. The recent evolution and spatial inequalities of these features are analysed. Due to the processes of suburbanisation and deindustrialisation the contrasts between the poor neighbourhoods in the central area and the rich neighbourhoods in the urban fringe have increased. Brussels-Capital Region is one of the richest regions within Europe, with an unacceptable degree of social and spatial segregation that is not sufficiently countered by the prevailing urban policy.L'article traite de la dynamique socio-spatiale en Région de Bruxelles-Capitale. Il décrit et interprète les disparités et contrastes entre les quartiers en terme de composition ethnique et de structure par âge. L'enrichissement de la périphérie bruxelloise contraste avec l'appauvrissement des quartiers du centre. La planification spatiale n'apporte à ce jour que peu de solutions.In deze bijdrage wordt een algemeen beeld geschetst van de demografische en de socio-economische karakteristieken in het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest. Het accent ligt op de recente evolutie en de ruimtelijke ongelijkheden van deze kenmerken. De Processen van suburbanisatie en desindustrialisatie hebben de contrasten tussen de 'arme' wijken in het centrale gedeelte van de stad en de 'rijke' wijken in de banlieue vergroot. Het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest is daardoor een van de rijkste regio's in Europa met onaanvaardbare sociaal-ruimtelijke tegens-tellingen en met een stedelijk beleid dat hierin weinig verande-ring brengt.de Lannoy Walter, de Corte Stefan.
