Images of the boating activities on the river Isère. The river Isère was an important navigable way from the Bronze period until the beginning of the XXlh centurv. This economic axis maintained a link between the north (Savoie) and the south (Rhône valley and Provence) and took the place of roads and paths. Goods and passengers were carried by rafts and boats. From iconographie sources (drawings, paintings and photographs), we reconstructed some models and described many boats. The oldest of them, called the sapine, is known from a photograph found recently. Other boats, like the savoyardeau and the cyselande, are known from ancient paintings and drawings.
