Contribution à l'étude du mécanisme d'interaction des argiles et des lignosulfonates

The authors studied the interaction between clay minerals and lignosulfonates as a function of pH. In acid medium, they observe the fixation of lignosulfonates by a topochemical reaction on the surfaces of the clay mineral flakes, accompanied by the formation of a coprecipitate. This reaction was pointed out by visible spectroscopy by using a synthetic coloured Ni hectorite. In alkaline medium, the fixation of long-chain organic molecules by «hydrogen bridges» takes place on the external basal surfaces of clay mineral flakes. The dispersed clay particles are then coated with the lignosulfonate molecules. By IR spectroscopy, it can be showed that the hydrogen bonding between the external siloxane surfaces of the particles is realized either by the intermediary of the cation «incorporated» to the lignosulfonate with which it constitutes an hydrous complex, or between some superficial chemical functions supported by the organic molecules.Les auteurs ont étudié l'interaction entre les argiles et les lignosulfonates en fonction du pH. En milieu acide. Ils observent la fixation des lignosulfonates par une réaction topochimique sur les surfaces latérales des cristallites argileux avec formation d'un coprécipité. Cette réaction a été mise en évidence par une étude spectroscopique en lumière visible en utilisant une hectorite nickelifère synthétique colorée. En milieu alcalin, on assiste à la fixation des macromolécules organiques par pontage hydrogène sur les surfaces basales externes des cristallites argileux. Les particules argileuses dispersées sont alors enrobées par les molécules de lignosulfonate. Par une étude spectroscopique en lumière infrarouge, on montre que la liaison hydrogène entre les surfaces siloxanes externes des cristallites s'effectue soit par l'intermédiaire du cation «incorporé» au lignosulfonate avec lequel il forme un complexe hydraté, soit entre certaines fonctions chimiques superficielles portées par la molécule organique.Siffert Bernard, Ferrand C.
