Identification of kaolin minerals by D.T.A., X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy is sometimes unfeasible, mainly as far as low -crystallized forms are concerned. It can be the case with fire-clay, metahalloysite or intermediate forms. Infrared spectroscopy in the OH vibration band and Al-O-H deformation band regions, can be decisive for achieving this identification.
