Synformic (phonological) confusions are discussed with reference to a corpus of written lexical errors established by the author at the University of Paris-Dauphine. Comparisons are made between evidence of lexical confusions found in written and oral production. It is suggested that phonological confusions account for under 15% of all lexical problems encountered by upper-intermediate learners of English, and that the balance between purely lexical and morpho-syntactical problems seen at this level differs greatly from that of the advanced learner.L’importance des confusions phonologiques de type synformique est examinée à l’égard d’un corpus d’erreurs lexicales commises à l’écrit, établi à l’Université Paris-Dauphine.
