The occupation of Trainer has developed over the last twenty five years as a result of the growth of human resource development and the constraints brought about by worldwide changes in the production of good and services. These origins created a heterogeneous entity which created an activity which was difficult to categorise as a profession. This article proposes a categorisation of the trainers’ professional context. The content of our empirical investigation is made up of the writings and observations carried out during the education and training of students participating in the DESS "Training of Trainers".
