This paper aims to show in what way the epistolary form finds its place in the Alexander Romance, and how it has evolved from the origins of the text to the epsilon recension (8th century). The epistolary form was one of the main sources of the original narrative; afterwards, the number of letters decreased as the different versions came out. The letters thus serve to convey the narrator’s voice in order to specify the characterization of some of the protagonists, especially that of Alexander. The epsilon recension distances itself further from the tradition by including three unknown letters from Alexander to his mother.
