City Building Without Problems ; the Example of Coimbatore, Southern India. Coimbatore, the second largest city of Tamil Nadu State in Southern India, does'nt show the usual signs of over-urbanization seen in other cities of the same size. The economic prosperity of this agglomeration offers a great proportion of its 920 000 inhabitants a decent standard of living. Earlier in the Twentieth century, Coimbatore was known as the «Manchester of India» but today its industrial basis is considerably broadened.
