Le tourisme en Nouvelle-Calédonie

Tourism in New Caledonia. In the south-western part of the Pacific Ocean, New-Caledonia doesn't enjoy, contrarily to Tahiti and its nearby islands, a universally renowned name. New-Caledonia with its 82 900 tourists and 35 000 cruisers in the year 1993, has only a very secondary role in the touristic industry of the Pacific Islands dominated by the Hawaii Islands. Located in the zone of influence of Australia and New-Zealand, New-Caledonia only poorly profits by these two markets. The products it offers are too expensive and its touristic potential including its immense lagoon and its big spaces is largely unexploited as shown by the concentration of the accomodation capacity in Nouméa. In this context, the «Provinces», the Territory and the State try to improve the offer by developing the training of the staff or by granting various advantages to investers.Dans le sud-ouest de l'océan Pacifique, la Nouvelle-Calédonie ne jouit pas, contrairement à «Tahiti et ses îles», d'un nom d'appel universellement connu. Avec 82 900 touristes et 35 000 croisiéristes en 1993, le Territoire n'a qu'un rôle très secondaire dans l'industrie touristique des îles du Pacifique dominée par les îles Hawaii. Dans la zone d'influence de l'Australie et de la Nouvelle-Zélande, la Nouvelle-Calédonie ne profite que très faiblement de ces deux marchés. Les produits proposés sont trop chers et son potentiel touristique, avec son immense lagon et ses grands espaces, est largement sous-exploité, comme le révèle la concentration de la capacité d'accueil sur Nouméa. Dans ce contexte, les Provinces, le Territoire et l'Etat essaient d'améliorer l'offre en développant la formation des personnels ou en accordant des avantages aux investisseurs.Gay Jean-Christophe.
