Les champs en éventail en Côte d'Ivoire

Fan-shaped fields in Ivory Coast. With the introduction of fan-shaped fields in the region of Koulango, in the Northeast of Ivory Coast, the typology of the agrarian morphology in tropical Africa has become richer with an unsuspected form of the traditional employment of communal lands. These fan-shaped fields, or radiating fields, produce in the main yams, the basic food of the inhabitants of this region. But the uniqueness of this agrarian structure resides in its foundation, wich is of a social order. Indeed, if the Serers of Senegal and the Bouzous of Niger have sought stability of their lands by associating agriculture with animal raising, the peasants of Koulango, when they undertook to improve their agrarian landscapes, when to major pains to protect certain of their social values.. Thus, the fan-shaped fields appear as the materialization, the codification in space of complex relation-ships that exist among the members of the same social cell, of the same clan living together under the system of self-sufficiency. In our time, the profound transformations of the rural Ivory Coast world condemn this form of agrarian improvement, which has become anachronistic, to disappear over the longer term.Avec les champs en éventail du pays Koulango, dans le nord-est de la Côte d'Ivoire, la typologie de la morphologie agraire en Afrique tropicale s'enrichit d'une forme insoupçonnée d'aménagement traditionnel des finages. Ces champs en éventail, ou champs rayonnants, produisent essentiellement de l'igname, base de l'alimentation des habitants de cette région. Mais, l'originalité de cette structure agraire réside dans ses fondements qui sont d'ordre social. En effet, si les Sérèr du Sénégal et les Bouzou du Niger ont recherché la sédentarisation de leurs terroirs en associant l'agriculture à l'élevage, les paysans Koulango ont eu pour souci majeur la sauvegarde de certaines valeurs sociales lors de l'aménagement de leurs paysages agraires. Aussi, les champs en éventail apparaîssent-ils comme étant la matérialisation, la codification dans l'espace des relations complexes existant entre les membres d'une même cellule sociale, d'un même clan vivant en autarcie. De nos jours, les profondes transformations du monde rural ivoirien condamnent ce type d'aménagement agraire, devenu anachronique, à disparaître à plus ou moins long terme.Coulibaly Sinali.
