Le déficit pluviométrique au Tchad et ses principales conséquences

The Precipitation Shortage in the Chad and its Main Consequences. While the rainy season of 1972 produced an insufficient amount of precipitation, the one of 1973 established absolute minimums in all the Sahelian meteorological stations of the Chad ; such low amounts have not been seen in the regions since 1949, the year of the great famine. This phenomenon was accompanied with a considerable rise in the average temperatures, which in turn produced an increase in the amount of evaporation, particularly noticeable on Lake Chad. The result of the consequences of these repeated shortfalls in precipitation reveals a disturbing economic and human situation in the Sudanese zone, and a frankly alarming state of affairs in the Sahelian region, where a growth in the amount of land turning into a desert is clearly observable. Confronted with this natural calamity, a young and poor nation such as the Chad cannot wage an effective combat alone, and, in addition to international aid for urgent emergency relief, it must depend primarily upon foreign financing if it is to entertain any hope of getting projects underway which can overcome the inhospitable nature of the area.Alors que la saison des pluies de 1972 avait été relativement déficitaire, celle de 1973 a établi dans toutes les stations du sahel tchadien de nouveaux minima absolus dont les précédents remontaient à 1949, année de grande famine. Ce phénomène s'est accompagné d'une augmentation sensible des températures moyennes qui a provoqué une hausse générale de l'évaporation, particulièrement marquée sur le lac Tchad. Le bilan des conséquences de ces déficits répétés fait apparaître une situation économique et humaine préoccupante dans la zone soudanienne, et franchement alarmante dans la zone sahélienne, où s'ajoutent des signes de désertification inéluctables. Face à cette calamité naturelle, un Etat jeune et pauvre comme le Tchad ne peut résister seul et, à côté des aides internationales pour le secours d'urgence, les projets de maîtrise du milieu dépendent essentiellement de financements étrangers.Bouquet Christian.
