About the Production of Funerary Stelai in the Straits Region. Funerary stelai, rarely analyzed for their form, are more often square and of a proportion close to 1:2. On the southern shore of the Propontis, the “Stockwerkstelen”, much higher, and decorated in several registers, succeeded the Greco-Persian stelae of Daskyleion. In inner Thrace and at Philippi, other monuments are closer to the stelae form Northern Italy, owing to the contacts with the Romans.
