The growth of population in Mexico Since 1940, Mexico has seen its population grow because of an unprecedented demographic explosion. Fortunately, the economy was able to keep pace with this growth and, industrialization aiding, the standard of living has not fallen. Quite the opposite : recently it was able to surpass the critical level of $ 500 per person and per year. Inhabited by 19,600,000 people in 1940, Mexico today has 50,000,000. In the tropical region, the countrysides are overpopulated, but there are no large cities.
