Representing a (Re) conciled History in Ireland, 1990-1998. In the 90s, war exhibitions arranged in Irish and Northern Irish museums were confronted with a major issue. How could national museums commemorate controversial events in a context of both sectarian violence and politics of reconciliation ? This article focuses on the organisation of exhibitions in the national museum of Ireland – Dublin – and Ulster museum – Belfast – for the tercentenary of the battle of the Boyne and the bicentenary of the 1798 rebellion. The different designs of the exhibitions are compared and set in the political context of the 90s and the surrounding historical debates.
