Burial mounds in the Region of Istria in the northern Adriatic have long been known but few of them have been excavated in the modern period. Interestingly, they are of different types, in regard to the manner of burial as well as kind of the stone-construction. One of them, on the hilltop of Maklavun, has the characteristics of a tholos. Its dating to the Middle Bronze Age is reasonably certain. The question arises whether the tholos, the form of which has rarely been found outside Greece, was built after prototypes from the Mycenaean world.Teržan Biba, Hänsel Bernhard.
