Observations sur la langue du Chronicon de Benoît moine de Saint-André du Soracte

The main aim of this paper is to describe some aspects of the language of a Latin Chronicle written in the 10th century by Benedict, a monk of the monastery of Saint-Andrew of the Soracte, in Central Italy. The language of this chronicle presents one of the most interesting uses of Latin in Medieval Italy: traditional analytical categories seem to lose their heuristic value if applied to the analysis of forms and structures of the Latin of this chronicle. The morphology and the syntax of this text have to be interpreted following very different patterns from the ones used to analyze Classical Latin texts.Greco Paolo.
