Since 1969, the Common Gull (Larus canus L.) is a breeding bird in a sinking mining area at Condé sur l'Escaut. This note relates the methods of the implantation and describes the breeding area and the territory of the birds. Nesting has been observed, and novel observations on the position of the nest are pointed out. The behaviour of the adult birds is described from their arrival at the nesting place to the emancipation of the young birds. It is distinguished by violent agressiveness.
