Levantine Weights of the Hellenistic Period. The physical, epigraphic, and mostly metrological features of the weights of the Hellenistic Levant— Syria, Phoenicia and Southern Levant— are synthetically presented. The series are assigned to administrative regions or to cities of which the names or symbols may appear in the decoration. The dates are Seleucid rather than local, while the local officials’ onomastics is Greek. The standards, minas or sheqels, follow the traditions of ancient Egypt or Mesopotamia, with the Attic drachma recently identified.
