From horse to tram'. The mechanization of urban transports. 1850-1900. At the verge of the 19th century, a real revolution occured in urban transports (electrification of tramways, increase of car use). However, a great interest is taken in the time-lag of railway mechanization, on the right track in the 1820's, and the mechanization of transports inside the towns the growth of which was quickened by this railway mechanization. The increasing density of towns led to the development of many innovations such as mansions without bringing innovations in transports which would have created a new urban pattern.
