Mallorca ha conegut a partir deis anys 1960 un creixement extraordinari del turisme, de tal manera que s'ha convertida en el símbol del turisme de masses. S'hi ha construit, en un espaï réduit, amb tanta densitat, que ha generat el concepte de « balearitzaciô ». Perô, malgrat aixô, els agents turístics han sabut reaccionar a temps i els périodes de crisi han provocat moites reflexions. Avui en dia, amb el 42 % del litoral protegit i amb una legislació que la conserva i limita el creixement, ha guanyat el premi « Turisme del futur » concedit en 1992 pels TT.OO. britanics. Si aquests canvis bruscs s'estan produint en l'aspecte turistic, la sqcietat també esta canviant, i en aquest moment, conviuen damunt aquest petit espai una diver- sitat de societats que pel moment es mantenen en equilibri.Mallorca frente al los peligros del monocultivo turístico. Al mismo tiempo ha generado una fuerte concentración en un pequeño espacio, creando una barrera de cemento que originó el concepto de « balearización ». Pero, contrariamente a lo previsto, los agentes turísticos han sabido reaccionar a tiempo y los períodos de crisis han fomentado un período de reflexión. Actualmente, con el 42 % de litoral protegido y con una legislación muy protectora y que limita el crecimiento, ha podido obtener el premio « Turismo del futuro » otorgado por los TT.OO. británicos en 1992.
