Jean-François Geoffroy, The Bavay Hole Plates : Typology and Pottery Context. The important amount of fragments of hole plates (« coin moulds ») found during the excavations of the forum basilica of Bavay allowed to make out five major types based on technological and morphological data. On the other hand such an important series — even though it consists only of fragments — enables us to put forward some assumptions on the manufacturing of these plates ; two techniques seems to have been used : hole-by-hole stamping and matrix stamping.
