The « Cabinet des Médailles » owns a little silver mug found in Gaul, ornamented with groups of fighting animals. What makes these designs particularly characteristic is their being in part at least fashioned apart and only later on welded to the sides of the object. This sophisticated technique is testified only for very few items of the Roman production, but is fairly usual in Sassanian workmanship.
