The trainer of student-teachers can build a representation of his/her function through the research work or through the trainees' expecta- tions. These two sources define models of trainers which are not always compatible. Moreover, they do not coincide with those specific to the secondary school teaching staff which most trainers come from. These discrepancies involve difficulties to find one's bearings which have been called identity troubles.
