La requalification à l'épreuve des faits et des institutions

The retraining actions born at the end of the 1980's were aimed at underskilled workers. They were based on the principle of a collective training on the worksite trying to solve concretely the recurrent problems on the production line, by relying on intuition and emulation ; this training can improve the company's results and the knowledge of the concerned actors ; it enables them to conceive of a new organisation of work and to make suggestions to the executives. After describing a retraining operation in an industrial painting company (context of the action, different stages, results), the writers dwell on the theory which underlies such a plan of action and wonder about its relevance and its limits. A crucial point is the skills acquired during this process ; they are recognized within the company but do not lead up to a diploma, so they are not recognised outside the company since they constitute collective and contextualised action skills rather than individual and transferable knowledge. Thus, in the end, it is the very notion of skill which is questioned once again.Les actions de requalification, nées à la fin des années 1980 s'adressent à des ouvriers faiblement qualifiés. Elles reposent sur le principe qu'une formation collective, sur le lieu de travail, cherchant à résoudre concrètement des problèmes récurrents dans la chaîne de production, en s'appuyant sur l'intuition et l'émulation, améliore les résultats de l'entreprise et les savoirs des acteurs concernés, permet même à ceux-ci de concevoir de nouvelles organisations du travail et de faire des propositions à la hiérarchie. Après avoir décrit une opération de requalification dans une entreprise de peinture industrielle (contexte de l'action, différentes phases, résultats), on explicite la théorie qui sous-tend un tel dispositif et on s'interroge sur sa pertinence et ses limites. Un point crucial est celui des compétences acquises au cours de ce processus, reconnues à l'intérieur de l'entreprise mais non « diplômables », donc sans reconnaissance extérieure, du fait qu'il s'agit de capacités d'action collective et contextualisée plutôt que de savoirs individuels transférables.
