The idea and logic of "professionalisation" are often proposed as an answer to the ordeals and transformations often faced by the culture and competence of teachers. The latter would have to be redefined around three dimensions : their ethical dimension ; the widening of their frame of reference and collective dimension, the need to overcome the discrepancy between the prevailing mode of transmission of knowledge and the socio-cognitive characteristics of a growing number of pupils.
