The paper presents the theory/practice relationship as a problem related to the top-down knowledge transfer, and its bottom-up educational re-context-making. Analyzing three successful paradigm cases in teacher education : mastery learning, strategic teaching and narrative inquiry, it appears that all have problems fitting their theoretical premisses. Their basic grounds are subject to refutations in terms of their own paradigms. Mastery learning is rarely grounded on standardized testing ; objectives were tested but rarely fitted control group classes.
