Two distinct courses of action can be taken when preparing the pupils for the fundamental learning of written ianguage : the first, didactic (given priority in this review), which concerns knowledge and savoir-faire relating to the Ianguage, and the second, cognitive, which centres upon the acquisition of general cognitive and meta-cognitive skills.
