In becoming an object of teaching, every genre of text becomes a school genre. The article discusses this thesis in three stages. In the first stage, the centrality of the notion genre in the building up of language abilities necessary for language activities is developped from a theoretical point of view, and the notion is situated in relation to the notion of language practices.
