Gérard Klotz : Representatives of quantitative thought. Together with the appearance of economics as a separate field of research, there developed in France the idea of an order behind economic life, which can be looked at in different ways. The present article studies this order as a circuit made up of measurable flows which irrigate and reproduce society. Thus the functioning and malfunctioning of the circuit can be compared thanks to figures, which was a new method at the time, but one which led the way to modem analyses as the argument, being freed from subjectivity and measurable, claimed to be scientific.
