Casanova en 1998

Gérard Lahouati and Marie-Françoise Luna : Casanova in 1998. The bicentenary of the death of Casanova is an invitation, in addition to celebrations, to look at present developments in Casanova studies. First of all there is, in addition to the republication of many of his French or Italian works, the systematic publication of his extensive manuscripts (unpublished texts and letters). Above all, the republication (for only the second time) of his Memoirs in the original French (Laffont, 1993) has given a boost to works on Casanova. While biographical and historical studies continue to fascinate the critics, there is growing interest in the writer, of the memoirs and other works, and in the literary, philosophical, or political aspects of his work. The myth of Casanova continues to stimulate, as it has always done, the dreams or the agressivity of many novellists, playwrights, cineasts and artists.Lahouati Gérard, Luna Marie-Françoise.
