Jacques Guilhaumou : A Franco-American debate around the French Revolution. A critical view of the French school of history has become the major issue in the debate between French and foreign historians. This article highlights a significant example through a study of the relations between the 'critical historiography' of the French Revolution, around François Furet and Mona Ozouf, and American historians. Ten years after the bicentenary of 1789, the history of the French Revolution is becoming professionalised, leading to an unprecedented accumulation of new knowledge.
