Le site de Porsuk et la mine de Bulgarmaden

The site of Porsuk and Bulgarmaden's mine Summary. The site of Porsuk in Southern Cappadocia was settled by the Hittites as early as the XVIIth century B.C. In addition to the strategic usefulness of the hôyiik in a valley connecting the central Anatolian plateau to the plain of Cilicia, there was also the necessity to control the access to the Bulgarmaden's mine of argentiferous lead in nearby Taurus. The excavations by a French archeological mission at work since 1968 prove that the extraction of the metal from the ore was in Antiquity performed on the very site, chiefly during the Hittite period (end of the second millenium) ans the Early Iron age (beginning of the first millenium).Le site de Porsuk en Cappadoce méridionale a été occupé par les Hittites dès la fin du XVIIe s. av. J.-C . À l'utilité stratégique découlant de la situation du hôyiik dans une vallée reliant le plateau central anatolien à la plaine de Cilicie s'ajoutaient les impératifs du contrôle de la mine de plomb argentifère de Bulgarmaden dans le Taurus voisin. Les travaux d'une mission archéologique française qui y fouille depuis 1 968 prouvent que l'extraction du métal à partir du minerai s'est faite dans l'antiquité sur le site même, principalement à l'époque hittite (fin du Ile millénaire) et au Fer ancien (début du 1er millénaire).Pelon O., Kuzucuoğlu Catherine.
