The prosopographic study of the dignitaries from the Flavian municipes promoted to the equestrian order shows the importance of the Flavian dynasty for those provincial elites who had just acceded to citizenship through the granting of the Latin law to their city. Barring one exception, no preferment is attested before the Flavians and the movement essentially took place under the reigns of Domitian and Trajan (sixteen preferments out of the attested twenty four for the first two centuries). After Trajan the movement came to a halt and the regions of the Iberian peninsula from which the Roman knights originated were again the cities of ancient romanisation, dating back to Augustan or earlier times.
