Aristophanes' comic works are not restricted to derision, caricature and the exposure of the vices and defects of the author's contemporary society. By means of a whole paraphernalia of ingenious artistic devices the dramatist more or less explicitly emphasizes certain individual qualities, attitudes and ways of behaviour which he deems fair enough.
