Les mutations du commerce du sel dans l'Europe du Nord au tournant des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles

Désormais, les nouvelles salines ignigènes disposent d'une énergie locale et bon marché et, grâce à la vapeur, d'un outillage plus puissants, tandis que les vieilles salines comme Lunebourg, grevées de rentes féodales, adoptent la voie de la modernisation avec deux siècles de retard.De ontdekking en exploitatie, in de XVIIe en XVIIIe eeuw, van kolenbekkens in Noord-Europa, het graven van kanalen en de aanleg van spoorwegen hebben een einde gemaakt aan de vroegere afhankelijkheid van het zuiden voor zeezout afkomstig van de Franse of Iberische Atlantische kusten ; zelfs in Frankrijk werd het zout uit het westen vervangen door dat van Lorreinen. De nieuwe zoutziede- rijen gebruiken de goedkope plaatselijke énergie en beschikken over krachtige, door stoom aangedreven werktuigen.
