Les jeux d'influence et le patronage local de la haute noblesse dans le choix des titulaires de cures en Brabant du Nord (XVe-XVIe siècles).

The patronage of the high nobility and the recruitment of parish priests in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century North Brabant. Every clergyman in search of a pastoral or other benefice had to make himself visible to a person or an institution possessing an advowson. A collection of case studies about the nomination to pastoral benefices in the northern part of the Duchy of Brabant (now the Dutch province of North Brabant) during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries by patrons belonging to the high nobility — that is by the seigneurs of Breda, of Bergen op Zoom, of Grave and Cuijk, and by the Duke of Brabant — reveals the mechanisms at work in the recruitment of parish priests and in the assignment of pastorates. The noble patrons turned almost exclusively to clergymen present at their courts or belonging to the networks surrounding their persons. Of predominant importance were connections based on consanguinity, on solidarity between groups of people, on friendship, and on relations between patrons and their clients. This limited analysis of the recruitment of new incumbents demonstrates that this was determined more by non-ecclesiastical and worldly circumstances than by ecclesiastical or pastoral concerns.Tout clerc recherchant un bénéfice pastoral ou autre devait se faire connaître d'une personne ou d'une institution, possédant un droit de patronage. L'étude d'une série de cas de nomination à des cures dans le nord du duché de Brabant (aujourd'hui la province néerlandaise du Brabant septentrional) aux XVe-XVIe siècles par des patrons de la haute noblesse (seigneurs de Breda, Bergop-Zoom, Grave et Cuijk) montre le mécanisme de recrutement des curés de paroisses et la désignation des cures. Les patrons nobles choisirent presque exclusivement des clercs de leur cour ou de leur réseau personnel. Les relations de parenté, de solidarité de groupe, d'amitié, de relation de patron à clients jouent le rôle majeur. Cette analyse limitée du recrutement des nouveaux curés montre qu'il était déterminé davantage par des facteurs laïques et séculiers que par des motifs ecclésiastiques ou pastoraux.Hoogadellijke patronage ende Rekrutering van pastoors in Noord-Brabant in de Vyftiende en zestiende eeuw. Aan de hand van enkele gevalsstudies over de voordracht van pastoors in Noord-Brabant door hoogadellijke kerkpatroons — in casu de heren van Breda, van Bergen op Zoom, van Grave en Cuijk, en de hertog van Brabant — in de vijftiende en zestiende eeuw worden de mechanismen blootgelegd die werkzaam waren bij de rekrutering van pastoors en de toekenning van pastoraten. De hoogadellijke patroons putten hierbij uit de lieden die deel uitmaakten van de netwerken rond hun persoon en aan hun hof. Relaties gebaseerd op verwantschap, groepssolidariteit, vriendschap en patroon-cliënt-verhoudingen speelden een cruciale roi. Deze beperkte analyse van de rekrutering van pastoors toont aan dat niet-kerkelijke, wereldlijke factoren hierbij een grotere roi speelden dan pastorale of kerkelijke motieven.Bijsterveld Arnoud-Jan.
