Prince and Nobility in the « châtellenie » of Lille at the end of the xve Century : an example of the stronger grab of the State on local elites ? Historical research which has the state formation in the Low Countries during the XVe and XVIe centuries as subject, is mostly underpinned by a theoretical framework that consists amongst others out of the geographical couple « center » and « periphery ». This model stresses the opposition between the central, urbanized regions, which are supposed to have been dominated by dynamic burghers and the surrounding, more rural regions, which are defined to have been the strongholds of the nobility.
