Le prince et la noblesse dans la châtellenie de Lille à la fin du XVe siècle : un exemple de la plus grande emprise de l'Etat sur les élites locales ?

Prince and Nobility in the « châtellenie » of Lille at the end of the xve Century : an example of the stronger grab of the State on local elites ? Historical research which has the state formation in the Low Countries during the XVe and XVIe centuries as subject, is mostly underpinned by a theoretical framework that consists amongst others out of the geographical couple « center » and « periphery ». This model stresses the opposition between the central, urbanized regions, which are supposed to have been dominated by dynamic burghers and the surrounding, more rural regions, which are defined to have been the strongholds of the nobility. Such a division of the Low Countries does not seem to be always that useful. This contribution shows that the social position of the Lillois noblemen was not very different, from that of their counterparts out of Brabant or Holland. But evidence shows that the rulers of the Low Countries have strongly influenced the composition of the group of noblemen. Furthermore these rulers favoured highly the development of a kind of « interreggional » nobility, which members possessed important goods in several regions of the Low Countries.Le couple « centre » et « périphérie » a souvent fonctionné comme la pierre angulaire de la recherche historique sur la formation de l'Etat aux Pays-Bas pendant les xve et xvie siècles. Ce modèle accentue l'opposition entre des régions centrales, fortement urbanisées et dominées par des bourgeois et des régions périphériques, plutôt rurales, où la noblesse aurait sauvegardé son influence. Une telle division entre centre et périphérie ne semble pas toujours si pertinente. La position sociale des nobles lillois ne différait pas fondamentalement de celle de leurs équivoques brabançons ou hollandais. D'autre part il est clair que les princes des Pays-Bas ont fortement influencé la composition de ce groupe de nobles. En plus, ces princes ont favorisé la naissance d'une (haute) noblesse intra-régionale, dont les membres possédaient des terres dans plusieurs régions des Pays-Bas.Prins en adel in de Rijselse kasselrij aan het eind van de XVde eeuw : een voorbeeld van de sterkere greep van de staat op lokale elites ? Historisch onderzoek naar de staatsvorming in de Nederlanden tijdens de XVde en de XVIde eeuw hanteert als verklaringsmodel meestal het geografische koppel « centrum » en « periferie ». Dit model gaat uit van een tegenstelling tussen de verstedelijkte regio's, waar dynamische burgers de toon aangaven en de omliggende meer rurale landstreken, die beheerst werden door edellieden. Een dergelijk onderscheid lijkt echter niet steeds even zinvol. De sociale positie van de Rijselse edellieden week niet wezenlijk af van die van hun standgenoten in Brabant of Holland. Wei oefenden de landsheren een diepgaande invloed uit op de samenstelling van groep der edellieden. Tevens werkten deze landsheren de opkomst van een interregionale adelsgroep, waarvan de leden in verschillende gewesten belangrijke landgoederen bezaten, zeer in de hand.Cools Hans.
