French Revolution and the Swedish Press. The Swedish crown reacted vigorously to the news of the July 1789 events in Paris. Stockholm had been francophile and the ally of Ancien Régime France for more than a century. But what about the reaction of the Swedish population in the peripheral areas of the kingdom ? The reading of the articles published in Gävle's weekly, a small town in northern Sweden, allows us to measure better the real diffusion and reception of the events and the ideas reaching them from France over the 1789-1799 period.
