In an effort to reconstruct by comparison the French civil status development since the XVIth Century, the authors examine the case of Norway, which does have a sufficient number of analyzed parishes dating from the mid XVIIth Century, by a method suitable to the existing documentary évidence. The résulte indicate that the numbers of parishes which have old records diminishes proportionally as one goes back in time, and the variance increases greatly.
