In spite of the lack of excavation work, the location, the character of the surviving ruins and the information gained from the inscriptions found on the surface, sufficiently indicate the importance of Amos as a Rhodian deme in die antiquity. The chief visible remain of the site today is a quite well preserved stretch of wall, about 400 m. in length, that runs along the northern slope. The architectural layout of this structure, the major turns of the line, the placement of the five towers and the two openings speak for an emphasis on defence rather than offence on the land side, although the settlement seems to have had a dominant position on a promontory, which would have allowed to attack the sea forces from above.
