Although in the Greek world cremation is less frequent as a funeral ritual than inhumation, it nevertheless has a revival during the Vth century. In Italy and in Sicily we can see that the cinerary urn from the middle of the Vlth century is very often a prime krater, laconian first then attic and finally italiot or siciliot. This ritual seems to have been reserved for a happy few and expresses through the choice of the scenery a loose hope for a glorious life beyond the grave.
