Can one say that attic vases have been chosen by the importing countries according to their decoration ? The history of researches in the field of greek ceramics and ancient trade reveals that such a conceptual approach appeared only very recently. This paper tries to explain why and to show under which conditions, and to what extent, this hypothesis can be accepted.
