The city of Lille features and Industrial Museum, whose history and collections bear witness to the rich commercial past of the city and of the Nord/Pas-de-Calais Region. Thanks to the activity of the city's learned societies, notably the Société des Sciences, the project of an industrial and agricultural museum is outlined as early as the beginning of the XlXth century. In 1854, following the idea developed by a Lille doctor, Doctor Gosselet, the Musée Industriel de la ville de Lille is formally opened, soon to be completed by a Musée Commercial showing the will of the Nord manufacturers to get ready to face international competition.
