Brian Friel and Seamus Heaney have both been involved with the Field Day theatre company from its beginning in 1980. Ten years later, Heaney writes his first play for the company, while Friel gives his new work to the Abbey. Both The Cure at Troy and Dancing at Lughnasa can be read in the context of recent developments within Field Day, and as key works in the careers of both authors.
