Born in 1770 Mary Ann McCracken lived to the ripe old age of ninety-six. Her life spans practically a century of Irish history, a century which experienced the growth of Belfast as a thriving industrial city, the radical political movement of the United Irishmen and the Young Irelanders, the campaigns of Daniel O'Connell and the development of Orangeism in the North.
